V-Day Celebration Ideas in the RGV

Who knew that I wasn’t the only person who had a hard time deciding what to do for Valentine’s Day. Miguel and I typically aren’t drawn to go out for Valentine’s Day because the crowds can be pretty wild. With that being said, I have recently been seeing A LOT of local restaurants offering special events or deals on Valentine’s Day, which is a little more motivating. As long as you make a reservation (I feel like most of them use Open Table,  in case you’ve been wondering) you should be fine!

Valentine’s Day Restaurant Events

Mori– I wrote a whole post on my first impressions of this restaurant a while back! They have a cute menu with specialty dinners and bubbles. So yummy!

Bonhomia– My first impression of Bonhomia is here and they are featuring a 6 COURSE MEAL (nom nom nom) beginning at two different times (6pm and 8 pm). I’d message them ASAP to make sure there’s still space!

Bodega– Lucky you! Bodega is actually doing a V-day giveaway! Enter on this post!

Maison Stivalent– I have been a HUGE fan of this spot and they are catering to you and your Galentine’s this Friday! I’m more than sure couples are still welcome, but I cannot wait to see what they have planned!

Salome– I never got around to doing a first impression post about Salome, but  it is definitely a trendy spot. For $175 you can enjoy a 4 course dinner with wine and bubbles and of course, dessert! This will actually be a featured menu item on the 13, 14, & 15! I love this idea and think it’s so considerate of them to offer this!

House Wine & Bistro– Affectionately known as “House Wine,” by us locals, this restaurant never disappoints when I’m looking for some foodie options!  Since Salome is their sister restaurant, their V-Day specials are very similar! They ALSO are offering these deals for the 13, 14, & 15! In addition, they’re also celebrating V-Day at LUNCH! I am just so impressed and appreciative of the additional options, haha!

Moonshine McAllen– I have yet to visit this spot since the closing of Copper Moon (RIP. Still not over it. Jk. Kind of.), BUT this the spot that offers the fry board that I WILL be trying ASAP! They have decorated their lounge (also VERY INTERESTING) in full V-DAY decor and are offering a 3-course meal for two for $110. They are also offering this LOVE-ly deal on Friday and Saturday!

Aly and the Val-entine’s day Ideas

Like I’ve said, Miguel and I are pretty non-traditional when it comes to what we do on Valentine’s Day. We’re not a big fan of crowds (even though going through these V-day offers are really tempting me!), so we have a tendency to stay home and change things up!

Miguel’s first year in the house, we chose to remake the bowtie festival from Carino’s. A little back story- Johnny Carino’s was our favorite restaurant until it closed down. We went at least once a week and our favorite dish was the Bowtie Festival. Here’s the recipe I followed. I think this is a fun idea because we had to cook together and it was funny to see how good/bad we both were at it!

The V-Day  before our wedding we played it low key and ordered in some Red Lobster. I LOVE seafood and even though this wasn’t the fanciest plant, it’s what I needed during this crazy time in our lives. Just proof to all of y’all that this day is about you and your loved one and making each other feel appreciated.

Our first married Valentine’s Day was a lot of fun and really different because we went and got massages and then we had dinner at our favorite restaurant, Mamma Mia’s! Finding a place that does a couple’s massage was SO hard, but I’m so glad we went through with spoiling ourselves a little bit.

This year (EEK!) we are staying in again!! However, we have it totally planned out! I ordered a grazing platter from Brine & Honey Grazing Co. I went with the simple grazing box for two. They have a whole SUPER CUTE V-day gift box that also features chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate and cookies! So yum, but we also wanted to enjoy the heat nugget tray from Chick-Fil-A. We’ll probably enjoy a bottle of our wedding wine and catch a movie on the fire stick! For someone who likes to go out this probably sounds so boring, but WE LIVE for the evenings that we get to just hang out!
