Beach Vacation Looks and Life Update

The end of June and beginning of July have seriously been a whirlwind for me! We got back from Cancun, celebrated a Birthday, headed out to the island (South Padre Island) to celebrate Fourth of July on the beach, then I headed to Houston to visit some amazing friends of mine! Y’all, I’m tired.  I thought that having time off from work would mean time to rest, but here I am, “go, go, GO!” Apparently, I live for the busy life, but I may have already known that, ha!

I FINALLY sat down today to put together my Beach Vacation must-haves! If you have an upcoming beach vacation, then you’re in luck, because the majority of these items can be purchased via Amazon Prime! Two-day shipping for everyone! If it isn’t from amazon, it probably has pretty decent shipping time, as well, though! Okay, here we go friends! Hold tight!

Swimmies

Alyandthevalley_beachvacation8.jpgThis is probably the section that everyone is most excited about! I found such great deals on my swimmies and even snagged two for under $10! (The black scalloped one and the purple one, in case you were wondering!). I am the curviest I’ve ever been in my life, but loathe the idea of wearing one pieces because I have a very long torso and that leads to lots of issues in length! Yikes. Enter the ‘monokini’! This style of bathings suit complemented my long torso, but still covered up the areas I wanted covered. My tip for the high-waisted bikinis I tagged is: make sure you buy a size that fits your bottom half. I bought one of the suits in a L and an XL and the L made me feel so self-conscious, but the XL made me say, “wow! I look great!” Don’t let an extra letter or a different letter make you second guess yourself! Comfort is also a key to to looking good!Alyandthevalley_beachvacation11 copy.jpg

Dresses & Cover-UpsAlyandthevalley_beachvacation4.jpgAlyandthevalley_beachvacation7.jpg

When I started to plan my outfits for my beach vacation, I knew that I wanted more “outfits” and dresses than top and bottom combos.  Reason being that I wanted all of my options to double as cover-ups.  We made little-to-no plans for our time in Cancun (Surprised? You must not have read this or this post), I wanted to make sure I was prepared for anything! My favorite cover-up ended up being a white dress I wore in Vegas in September. Y’all’s favorite piece by far was the palm print romper/jumpsuit. That piece really surprised me! I thought I was going to have to wear a special bra for it, but a regular one worked perfectly! It comes in about a million different colors and I feel like it can be dressed up and down very easily with some heels.

Accessories

I brought about 7 pairs of shoes on this trip and ended up only using about 3 pairs! I love to be prepared and brought some heels for dinners, but I ended up hurting my ankle (nothing serious, but still not sure what’s going on there!) walking in the sand  one day, so I stuck to my flip-flops. These dupes for the Valentino Rockstud flip-flops go with every single outfit. They also do well in the sand and are easy to pack into a beach bag. I cannot say enough good things about them. If I had to pick one color only, it’d be this light pink/nude color! I linked the sandals I intended to wear for y’all also!

Alyandthevalley_beachvacation2.jpgNow, let’s talk about my bag. I’ve been using this little bamboo clutch for about a month now. I have so much to report. It is small, but it helps me only take the things I NEED! I’m an overpacke at my core, so I’m always trying to carry more than I need. On vacation, that isn’t fun. So, I’ve loved this little clutch and I’ve especially loved that it comes with an insert to keep my items safe. I didn’t always use the insert, but when I felt I needed it I did.

Alyandthevalley_beachvacation.jpgAs for sunnies, I brought two kinds on this trip. Excessive you say? I think not! I am more than positive that I’ve discussed my love for sunglasses in depth over the past few blog posts. I love them and I really try to take care of them for as long as possible. I’ve ‘retired’ some sunnies, but (for example) if ever I want to use my pink aviators again, they’re in great condition to do so. I’ve reached that point because I like to avoid using my sunnies in sandy conditions (when I’m actually in the sand, they’re fine for hanging out) and in the water.  When your lenses fall in the sand they can actually scratch the lenses (SO sad) and well I’m sure we’ve all seen a favorite pair of sunnies drift away in an ocean wave. YIKES. As a personal rule, I always bring a fun pair of sunnies to get in the water with. These have been great this summer. They’re cute and if they drift away from me in the ocean…they were only $11. My heart and wallet will rest easy.

Alyandthevalley_beachvacation12.jpgI was very pleased with the outfits that I brought to Cancun (and the ones that only made appearances on South Padre Island, ha!). I often struggle to find the balance between comfort and style because there are just SO MANY cute ways to style clothes! Again, my biggest recommendation for a beach vacation is to wear clothes that can be a cover up option as well! This will also help with the comfort factor! I hope y’all enjoyed this post and I am dying to know where y’all are vacationing this summer! Let me know in the comments below! Maybe I’ll join ya!! Haha!
