This is a blog post that I have planned at least 17 times since purchasing my Golden Goose sneakers during the pandemic! These shoes are a hot topic- controversial even. The facts: they’re expensive. This is the drama behind the controversy. Some of these shoes run up to $700- which, I understand, is ridiculous. I bought mine secondhand. I’m here to plead my case in defense for the golden goose sneaker trend though. Sit tight!

The biggest argument I hear is,” why would you pay for such UGLY shoes?” OUCH! Harsh, but understandable. Some of them come distressed. Not all. Mine are distressed and I worried that it would bother me, but I wanted to understand the hype. I knew I’d be able to resell if I absolutely hated them. I’ll be honest, the first time I wore them I wasn’t in love. They kind of hurt my feet in the way all shoes will after an extensive amount of walking. It was a meh for me.
It wasn’t until my Hawaii trip this summer (I know I owe you a travel tale, y’all. Being pregnant is exhausting!) that I realized how VALUABLE these shoes are. I packed at least a half dozen sandals for this trip because “Hello, Hawaii!” The first evening we got there, one of my jelly sandals ripped through my big toe (less dramatic than it sounds) and I realized that we were walking a great deal more than I anticipated.
Luckily, my GGs are my official go-to travel sneaker, since wearing socks while going through security is a MUST, and were readily available for me to wear with my outfits. I wore them all the time. We walked 100 million miles up and down Waikiki Beach and I was so comfortable. More importantly, I looked cute.
My husband and I had a very passionate conversation about appropriate footwear when traveling in New York in 2018. I stand by my argument of “I’m not going to ruin my outfit with SNEAKERS.” Now, I don’t have to.
All this to say- I got ya some great dupes! I’ve heard from great sources that the Steve Madden versions of GGs are just as comfortable. While I lust over these, I’ll try to keep that in mind!
What do you think? Do you think you’d rather get the real deal or the look for less? Also, should I invest in these beauties.
Love & Sneakers,
