Social Distancing To-Do List

Happy Friday Lovelies! It’s officially been about a month since we’ve been practicing social distancing and I feel like I have found myself picking up new hobbies, getting in more hours of sleep (it’s easy when there’s no commute!), and I’ve also done a whole lot of organizing and self-care! That’s why I figured I would let you take a look at my social distancing to-do list! I’ve scratched off most of the things on this list and with each item I scratch off, I feel more at peace! AlyandtheValley_SocialDistancingToDo491

Clean Up!- It may take me a while to get started, but I love cleaning up and cleaning out a space in my home.  Over time, things that started off as great ideas eventually get pushed around or lose their function because we are powering through every day to get as much accomplished as possible. This week, I cleared out a rug from an extra bedroom and a shelf from my kitchen that made both spaces look so much cleaner. My biggest obstacle to completing these types of projects is finding a place to get rid of these bigger items.

A really cool service that I heard about recently was renting a large dumpster for a few days! Junk Queen TX  is a company that provides this service. While this service isn’t available in the valley it is available for all of my readers interested in  junk removal in Collin County. This company also offers in-home junk removal and in-home pick-up. Instead of worrying about how you will get rid of the junk once you’ve can cleaned it up, you can focus on cleaning out, so you can also get organized!

AlyandtheValley_SocialDistancingToDo497.JPGGet Organized! – I’ve been an organizing queen lately! I think the trick to getting organized is to have appropriate places/containers for everything. I showed y’all this jewelry organizer (that is supposed to be for rings only) that I put my earrings in.  I love that it’s open from the top and I can see everything I have in one spot. I also snagged a clear sunglasses case (mine is sold out, but this is similar). I have my most used ones in my bedroom, but I will switch them out from time to time. Again, I love these organizers because the acrylic allows for me to see the things I have. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that goes, “if you don’t see it, you won’t use it.” That’s the mindset I’ve adopted during my organization journey.

IMG_1537.JPGI’ve also been taking time to organize our pantry. I love baking and it’s easy for baking ingredients I already have to get prematurely re-purchased when I’m shopping for new recipes. I’ve loved using these plastic bins from target to separate and organize everything a little more.

Another tip: organization takes time (and money). Don’t go out and buy a bunch of organization containers and expect it all to happen quickly. I did my pantry over two weeks, my earrings/jewelry took another week and I just did my sunglasses this week. That seems like REALLY slow organization, but like I said, you have to clean up before you organize. Take as much time as you need and make sure your system is functional for your lifestyle!

Self Care!- As much as exercising is important for a self care routine, so is taking a minute to slow down. I’ve been wanting to use my bathtub more, so I decided to spruce it up with some Amazon finds. I added  this pillow and this tray to get myself cozy enough to sit for more than 10 minutes. I also finally purchased a volcano candle(since Nordstrom had them on MEGA sale!) to enjoy during a nice bath. I’m hoping to also read some of my Real Simple magazines in the bath since they’ve been piling up. I’ve been having quite the aversion to my phone lately and I think it’s because I need more still moments where I’m not having a HUGE influx of information in my face at all times. Bath time with a non-digital magazine? Problem solved

It can be hard to prioritize what’s important during social distancing since everything is different than what you’re used to. I think focusing these 3 activities at least once a week can help you feel a little more grounded and productive. What have you been doing to be more productive? Is there anything new that you have started since we’ve started practicing social distancing?
