Mmm, Mmm, Mori Japanese Grill

If you’re a valley native, you’d probably agree with my surprise at how much our little Rio Grande Valley has grown in recent years. I remember coming back from college and being excited about all of the new movie theaters and restaurants that have sprouted up,  as if overnight! Theres definitely a new restaurant scene in our area and sometimes that can be little scary to explore, which is why I’ve decided to do it for you! Today, I’ll tell you all about my recent trip to Mori- what we ordered, what I wish I would’ve ordered, and what I’m going back for!

Miguel and I were looking for a quick dinner after a long week and were halfway toward our usual spot when it dawned on me that this would be a perfect opportunity to try out Mori, since I’d been dying to try it since before it opened! It’s a bit unusual for us, Valley folk, to think of the mall as a spot to eat, but with so many options now, it is probably one of the first spots to think of nowadays!

You may or may not know this, but the owners of Valley Favorite, Kumori, and Mori are actually the same. You are able to order any roll or entree from Kumori to eat  at Mori, which we almost took advantage of. My husband hates change as much as his wife does, so he was ready to order a Fiji roll, like always. To my surprise and delight, he chose to order the Fuji Roll. This roll is actually very similar to the Fiji, but  it is made with King Crab and a different sort of sauce that was absolute delicious. This was probably my favorite entree of the whole meal! I would love to go back and try it again!

The rolls, overall were much larger than usual rolls and full of flavor! We always order some rice to share, and I wasn’t expecting the mixed rice to be any different than usual, but OMG it was so tasty! I don’t know why or how it was different, but the flavor was wonderful.

On our next visit, I’d love to try the sushi boat/tray that they had pictured in their menu! I haven’t had one since college and I think it’s so fun to sample and share different types of sushi with friends. I’d also love to try an appetizer, although I’m not sure whether I should play it safe with edamame or dumplings or try something more adventurous like Octopus!

I hope y’all enjoyed my brief coverage of this local restaurant! If there are any other restaurants you’d like my take on, please let me know! I’ll be happy to share! I hope your Monday is off to a great start!
