I want to preface this post by saying thank you to all of you, instagram followers, blog followers or friends and family. This week has been hard for my family and I haven’t been really tending to the ‘gram and the blog like usual and while it was refreshing and necessary to be with my family, I really did miss this little part of my life. Thank you to all of you to your kind words and condolences. It means a lot to know that internet friends are equally as kind when real life situations happen. Love you guys to pieces!
Another week of October has zoomed by and it is almost time to get ready for Halloween festivities. My family has a little less traditional Halloween since most of us are not of trick-or-treating age (you better believe we get my niece to go to all the best houses though, haha!). Typically, we all get together at my cousin’s house for an annual “Spook”ghetti! It basically includes a spaghetti dinner and play games or watch some not-so-scary Halloween movies. Last year we actually watched a scary movie, and I think it was a first time, only time situation. Sometimes, my sister and I get a little wild and bake something Halloween-themed which is also a lot of fun! It got me thinking about some alternatives to trick-or-treating on Halloween!
I was so excited to be gifted a super-cute custom cookie decorating kit from Becca from Bake My Day (if you haven’t checked out her instagram, you’re missing out on some cutie cookies)! I was very afraid when we were talking about this idea because ya girl is not crafty. I am too impatient to craft well and too OCD to be satisfied with my mediocre crafting skills. It’s a vicious cycle, which is also why I’m not a make-up blogger or a craft machine. I digress…
I started out with a basic classic pumpkin to get my feet wet. Like I said earlier, I don’t craft, so my expectations were VERY LOW. I also have a tendency to ruin things. Becca’s kit requires you to cut small holes in the icing packets and I WAS READY to mess it up. I DIDN’T! I did cut them at different spots (like I said, I ruin all things), but the kit was easy to use and fool(Alyssa)proof!
After the pumpkin, I ventured out into ghosts, crazy pumpkins and EVEN perfected a spiderweb. I cannot express to y’all enough how not-crafty I am! My sister, who is well aware of my lack of craft skills, even commented on how well I did! The best thing about these cookies is how easily they keep. I was able to keep some cookies sealed and place the icing in the fridge to save for my niece (a queen crafter)!
This would be such a fun group activity for a family for either before, after, or instead of trick-or-treating! Everyone who joined in on the fun was instantly entranced in their cookie decorating. I think we could even take things a step further and have a cookie decorating contest? What are your Halloween plans? Let me know in the comments below! I hope y’all have a fun weekend and thank y’all so much for your kind words and love and prayers. I am so appreciative of you!
