Athleisure for Adults

Hello, lovelies! Let it be known that I totally wanted to title this post “Athleisure for Dummies,” but I’m not a dummy and athleisure was something I was never sure I “could do” right. IMG_3306.jpg

I went to college in the time of the giant t-shirt with Nike shorts. Nike Frees had just debuted and every girl who was any girl had them in all the cutest colors.  I sported a big gaudy watch and my hair was always in a messy bun.  Leggings came in my last few years of college, but for the majority of the time my uniform was consistent.

Now, in case you don’t know.  I am in the second half of my twenties. I’m fine. It’s cool. But this also means I’m not on a college campus to see the latest “I woke up like this” look. Still with me? Good!

Athleisure is not a new trend, but it’s a trend that I had to wrap my mind around before spending my second-half-of-my-twenties-I-need-work-clothes money.  That is why I turned to two of my favorite spots to build my athleisure wardrobe. Target & Amazon!

This thermal-style (it’s not HOT at all) blouse is so comfortable.  I sized up to a Large so there would be no gapping in the buttons and because I wanted a looser fit. Priced at $16, I found it to be affordable and picked it up in black and this light gray color (Some colors are also on sale right now!!)

Now, for these shoes. OH MY WERE THESE A STEAL at $14! The prices seem to vary by color and availability, but let me tell you I didn’t think twice when I found these.

Last summer, I traveled a good chunk of the east coast in one weekend. I saw Washington D.C., West Virginia, New York City, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey alllll in one weekend. I had on my cute white platform shoes because it was my first trip to NYC and I had to be fabulous. After a few hours…MY.FEET.WERE.KILLING.ME. My husband told me I should’ve known better but I didn’t care because a fashion designer liked my Marshall’s Top and I felt like Carrie Bradshaw. CB does not wear nikes in NYC.

Needless to say though, I’ve been looking for new white kicks ever since. These have such a soft back that caresses instead of cuts your heel. I have a high arch, so they did hurt the top of my foot the first time I wore them (only on my right foot, mind you), but I haven’t felt it after that. I found them to be TTS and purchased a 6 1/2.

Now, why does 1 + 1 = 2 and these pieces make your athleisure dreams come true? Because they’re comfortable, mostly. I could wear this outfit to do yoga and brunch with my girls. It would be great for when I need to clean out my therapy room at the end of the school year (less dust on my arms more on my shirt!). It would also be a great outfit for catching a QUICK week day dinner with my husband after he worked a long shift and I worked with 3-year-olds all day. Athleisure is clothes that basically serves multiple purposes. When I realized that, I realized that it wasn’t such a scary trend after all.

Well, that’s my take on athleisure! I hope y’all found some nice pieces you liked and will maybe even attempt an athleisure look yourself! Please, tag me if you do! Also, are there any other trends you’ve been wanting to try, but not exactly sure how to go at it? I’m game! Let me know of any in the comments below! Love y’all and happy Tuesday!
